DAY 1 – Salt Lake City Arrival

Arrive into Salt Lake City International Airport
Check in to your hotel and take a stroll around town to get your bearings.

DAY 2 – Salt Lake City

Your first stop has to be Temple Square, the spiritual centre of the city. Take a free missionary guided tour to learn about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first-hand, view the exterior of Salt Lake Temple and stroll through the pristine gardens. Head to the mountainside to visit Red Butte Gardens and the Natural History Museum of Utah, the perfect combination with great views over the city. During spring the gardens are full of colour and aroma. Next door the Natural History Museum displays an incredible selection of dinosaur bones and living creatures of today. Both attractions are available on the Salt Lake City Connect Pass.

DAY 3 – Salt Lake City to Vernal (176 miles)

Travel the scenic route to Vernal through the Wasatch Mountains before heading east to Dinosaur National Monument. Along the way stop off at the natural wonder of Homestead Crater to soak in the geothermal spring, or head to the alpine resort of Park City where you can tour the Olympic Park, try the alpine slide, zip line through tree tops, or stroll Historic Main Street. At Dinosaur National Monument there are over 1,500 dinosaur fossils in an exposed cliff face inside the Quarry Exhibit Hall. To experience a wild western landscape head to Rainbow Park and Island Park, a less developed area providing acres of open space to roam, and to view the Fremont petroglyphs at McKee Springs.

DAY 4 – Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area to Jackson, WY (286 miles)

Spend a couple of hours exploring Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, with deep channels carved into rugged landscapes and a 91 mile long reservoir. This is a scenic playground for boating, fishing, rafting or biking. One of the must-sees is Flaming Gorge dam which rises 502 feet above the Green River. Continue driving north across the border into Wyoming. If time allows take the 24-mile self-guided Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Route to view wild horses, pronghorn, elk, deer, rabbits, coyotes, hawks and eagles. Alternatively, stop at Killpecker Sand Dunes to discover Native America rock art and unique rock formations, before completing your scenic journey to the western cowboy town of Jackson. Don’t miss the live music and line dancing at the local saloons!

DAY 5 – Grand Teton National Park (117 miles)

Get your camera ready as you approach Grand Teton National Park, dominated by the Tetons, a 40-mile mountain range that is part of the famed Rocky Mountains.
Spend the day exploring the park – drive the 42-mile Scenic Loop, visit Grand Teton National Park Visitors Center, enjoy a hike or wildlife safari, take a boat trip on one of the lakes or a scenic float ride down the river for a perfect view of the mountains and maybe even a bear or two.

DAY 6 – Jackson to Yellowstone National Park (130 miles)

Get an early start for the nation’s first national park, Yellowstone - best known for the geysers, hot springs and mud pots that make it one of the most active geothermal areas on the planet. The awe-inspiring landscape covers 3,000 square miles with over 10,000 thermal features and hundreds of animal species. Popular sites include Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful, Midway Geyser Basin, Norris Geyser Basin, Lamar and Hayden Valleys and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its inspirational view of Lower Falls.

DAY 7 – Yellowstone National Park 

Continue exploring Yellowstone National Park at your own leisure. Don’t miss the chance to spot wolves and bears on a wildlife tracking tour from Lamar Valley.

DAY 8 – West Yellowstone to Bear Lake, UT (275 miles)

Today, travel through the forests of eastern Idaho to thundering Upper and Lower Mesa Falls. Just outside the town of Rexburg you’ll find Yellowstone Bear World, a drive through wildlife park of free-roaming Rocky Mountain goats, bison, moose, white tail deer and even grizzly bears. Take a quick soak in the steaming Lava Hot Springs before continuing your drive to Bear Lake.

DAY 9 – Bear Lake to Salt Lake City (125 miles)

Spend a couple of hours at the ‘Caribbean of the Rockies’ aka Bear Lake. This 20-mile freshwater lake is a haven for water sports enthusiasts - water ski, kayak, paddleboard or scuba dive the brilliantly blue waters. If you prefer dry land then enjoy a stroll or cycle to admire the scenery, or simply relax on the sandy shores. In the afternoon, enjoy the scenery along Logan Canyon Scenic Byway, stop in Brigham City for a tour of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge or Golden Spike National Historic Site, before making the final leg of your journey to Salt Lake City.

DAY 10 – Salt Lake City to Home

Spend the morning exploring Antelope Island State Park, just 25 miles from Salt Lake City, the island sits in Great Salt Lake and is home to herds of bison and antelope. Enjoy walking, cycling, scenic drives, paddling, kayaking and wildlife spotting, before heading back to the airport to return your hire car and join your late afternoon flight home.
